Itinerary
Day 1: Fes → Ifrane → Midelt → Ziz Valley → Merzouga
Depart Fes in an air-conditioned 4x4 or minivan and drive through the scenic Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping in Ifrane, often called the "Switzerland of Morocco," and the charming Berber town of Midelt. Pass through the palm-lined Ziz Valley, with dramatic landscapes and traditional Berber villages. Arrive in Merzouga in the late afternoon and witness the magic of the Sahara Desert at sunset. Optional activity: Evening stargazing and traditional Berber music around the campfire.
Overnight: Merzouga desert camp – Tiziri Camp or Sahara Eden Camp
Day 2: Erg Chebbi Desert – Camel Trek & Sunset
Wake up to the mesmerizing dunes of Erg Chebbi. Enjoy a sunrise camel trek across the golden sands, perfect for desert photography. Spend the day exploring the dunes and surrounding desert landscapes. In the evening, take a sunset camel ride, capturing the Sahara's breathtaking colors. Optional activities: Sandboarding on the dunes, trekking to a desert oasis, or learning to make Berber pizza in the sand.
Overnight: Merzouga desert camp – Tiziri Camp or Sahara Eden Camp
Day 3-4: Full Sahara Desert Exploration
Two unforgettable days at the heart of the Sahara — immersed in the extraordinary world of Erg Chebbi. Wake each morning before dawn: the alarm call is worth it, as the Sahara sunrise is one of the great natural spectacles on earth. The sky transforms from deep indigo through violet and rose to blazing copper-gold as the first light strikes the 150-metre dune crests, illuminating each ripple and ridgeline in extraordinary clarity. Breakfast at camp is a Berber ritual: msemen flatbread, amlou (a thick paste of ground almonds, argan oil, and honey), fresh medjool dates, boiled eggs, and sweet mint tea served in the traditional three-pour ceremony. Sunrise and sunset camel treks — riding in traditional fashion as the light transforms the dunes — are the signature Sahara experience, led by Berber nomads who navigate these sands by instinct. More adventurous guests can try sandboarding on the steeper dune faces, or join a 4x4 excursion across the flat hammada to Khamlia, the small village of Gnawa musicians whose hypnotic guembri and qraqeb rhythms are performed in the village courtyard with extraordinary power and authenticity. Visit the seasonal desert lake that attracts pink flamingos and migratory wading birds; explore the Cambrian fossil beds where 500-million-year-old trilobites tell the story of the prehistoric ocean that once covered this land; and meet nomadic Berber families whose hospitality — tea, bread baked in the sand, stories of desert life — is as generous and genuine as anywhere on earth. Two nights at the desert camp give you the full arc of the Sahara experience: the sunset, the darkness, the stars, the silence, the pre-dawn chill, and the sunrise.
Overnight: Merzouga desert camp – Tiziri Camp or Sahara Eden Camp
Day 5: Merzouga → Rissani → Erfoud → Todra Gorge / Dades Gorges
Depart Merzouga and stop in Rissani, exploring its vibrant souks filled with spices, dates, and handmade crafts. Continue through Erfoud, known for its fossil quarries and desert landscapes, and then drive to Tinghir at the entrance of Todra Gorge. Explore the dramatic Todra Gorge cliffs, ideal for photography and short walks at the end of the day arrival at the Dades Valley where you will spend the night.
Overnight: Dades Gorge – Dar Blues Or Dades Paradise
Day 6: Todra Gorge → High Atlas Mountains → Marrakech
Travel through the scenic High Atlas Mountains, passing traditional Berber villages and dramatic gorges. Stop for photos and optional visits to local kasbahs, including Kasbah Taourirt. Arrive in Marrakech in the evening for overnight stay.
Overnight: Marrakech – Riad Nessma or Dar Anika
Day 7: Marrakech City Tour
Marrakech is one of the world's great cities — a heady, intoxicating blend of medieval souks, ornate palaces, and the extraordinary energy of Jemaa el-Fna, the UNESCO-listed central square that comes alive each evening with storytellers, musicians, henna artists, snake charmers, and food stalls serving everything from harira soup to lamb tagine. Your guided morning takes in the Bahia Palace — a late 19th-century riad palace of breathtaking scale, its dozens of rooms decorated with hand-carved plasterwork, painted cedar ceilings, and intricate zellij tilework — and the nearby Saadian Tombs, where the 16th-century sultans lie in elaborately decorated marble mausoleums that were sealed behind a wall for over 200 years before being rediscovered in 1917. The labyrinthine souks of the medina are organised by craft: the copper market, the spice souk with its mountains of saffron and ras el hanout, the leather workers dyeing in open stone vats, and the weavers working silk and wool on traditional hand looms. The afternoon is free for independent exploration: shopping for hand-hammered copper lanterns, Moroccan leather babouche slippers, or hand-woven Berber kilims, or visiting the iconic Jardin Majorelle — the cobalt-blue garden created by French painter Jacques Majorelle and later restored by Yves Saint Laurent, now home to the Berber Museum. In the evening, your guide will suggest the best rooftop restaurants overlooking the Jemaa el-Fna for a memorable farewell dinner.
Overnight: Marrakech – Riad Nessma or Dar Anika
Day 8: Departure / Optional Extension
Your final morning in Morocco. After a leisurely breakfast at your riad, depending on your flight time you may have time for a final stroll through the Marrakech medina — perhaps to the Mellah (the historic Jewish quarter) with its distinctive yellow-painted buildings, or to the peaceful Cyber Park near the Koutoubia Mosque where locals gather in the shade of orange and olive trees. If you are extending your journey, your guide can arrange a day trip to Essaouira — the windswept Atlantic port city of white-and-blue medina streets, fresh fish at the harbour, and broad sandy beaches beloved by wind and kite surfers, just 2.5 hours from Marrakech — or to Casablanca, where the awe-inspiring Hassan II Mosque rises dramatically from its promontory above the Atlantic, its 210-metre minaret the tallest religious structure in the world. At the appointed time, your private vehicle transfers you to Marrakech Menara Airport. As you board your flight home, the memories of the Sahara — the silence of the desert night, the smell of woodsmoke from the campfire, the golden light on the Erg Chebbi dunes at sunset — will already feel like images from a dream.
